In calculating the degree of driver tiredness, ASTID takes into consideration :
The Time of Day: Circadian rhythm analysis shows that there are two peaks of tiredness - the early hours of the morning and the middle of the afternoon. This is when the body is at its most susceptible.
Lack of Sleep: Lack of sleep effects performance and exacerbates the time of day effect.
Length and Type of Driving: ASTID determines both the length of driving time and whether the vehicle is being driven under monotonous conditions such as highways, mine pit or long dull roads.
Vehicle Movement: Using a state of the art sensor, ASTID is continuously assesing steering movements of the vehicle, as changes in the number of steering movements and/or exaggerated corrections can also be indicative of tiredness and provide indicators as to the drivers' alertness
